BioCen, was created in 1992 as a member of the Western Scientific Pole and is actually member of the Group of the Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Industries (BioCubaFarma). The company has a solid tradition and experience as a Contract Manufacturing Organization and has different production units and laboratories. The institution is also certified as a Research Institute and as a High Technology Company by the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
BioCen manufactures products for human health supported by the experience and knowledge potential of its human resources and the technological diversity, supported by a certified quality management system according to ISO 9001 directed to customer´s satisfaction. Main facilities include a plant for the industrial scale production of active pharmaceutical ingredient of products with high impact on health such as Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor used to reduce the symptoms of cancer treatments, and Recombinant Streptokinase, to break the thrombus in myocardial infarction. The parenteral´s plants designed and equipped according to high level of GMP international standards are dedicated to offer by contract to other companies pharmaceutical´s finishing processes such as formulation, filling, freeze-drying, automatic review, labeling and packaging of low-volume parenterals. Facilities are certified by the Cuban and foreign regulatory authority. BioCen provides biological, microbiological and other testing services, accredited by the NC-ISO/IEC 17025 standard. R&D activities include the development of immunomodulators, allergenic vaccines, antianemics, food supplements and nutraceuticals, microbiological and plant culture media, and products for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease.
